Fillipe Coutinho

VISUAL ARTIST

Fillipe Coutinho is a Brazilian visual artist based in Lisbon. His painting is influenced by neo-expressionist figuration and symbolic abstraction, in recurring patterns of faces, masks, and totemic presences. Thick contours and saturated chromatic tensions give his works an immediate physical and emotional charge, steeped in the themes of childhood memories, street aesthetics, psychiatric rupture, and global migration. Coutinho has lived and worked between Brazil, the USA, Spain, and Portugal.

Câmara de Ecos / Echoes Chamber

This series of paintings is shaped by the recurrence of faces, masks, eyes, thresholds, and signs as unstable forms.

These are not quiet paintings. They feel excavated, restless, and oneiric. The same visual units reappear across works in altered form, as if each canvas were a chamber where previous images return distorted, intensified, or half-remembered.
This reverberation is key to unlocking a sense of identity that is never whole or singular, but assembled under pressure, broken by experience, and reconstituted through acrylic and graffiti spray.

Work in progress, 2026.
